Zadig & Voltaire's Rock Bag - does it live up to its hype?

I am not sure if this is the case everywhere else in the world. But, I live in the Netherlands and I notice that here, almost everyone has or wants the Rock bag. I remember that that’s been the case since the Summer of this year and I have no idea how it started. In my case, I was at a festival and I saw a girl with the Rock nano bag. She looked super cute and the bag looks super practical for events like that. I thought the trend would die down eventually, but it’s December now and I still see that bag everywhere. Not only that, but the bag can be quite difficult to get (depending on which model you want) so I can imagine that I’m not the only one thinking this.

I’ve wondered for ages cause I wasn’t really convinced. I wondered if this was just another trendy bag? Will I hate in a few months? Do I really need it or do I just want to follow the trend? But, in the end I pulled the trigger. I really needed a party bag and I’m a bit over the one that I was using.

First impressions

I can really understand why so many people like the Rock bag. It looks super casual but kind of in a cool way. The material is this soft grained leather and it’s slouchy which again makes it seem more casual and understated. I’ve always liked bags like this, that is why I had gotten the Balenciaga City bag (not gonna get into it cause I might write another article about that 😊). At the same time, the slouchiness also means that the bag loses its shape quite fast. Not sure if that will be a con for you.

It’s got three compartments (if you can call the little zipped thing in the back a compartment). It’s not the roomiest bag in the world although it does look quite big. I can fit a small wallet, a few lippies, a small tissue pack, my iPhone and my ov-kaart. It’s not a lot, but that’s still more than enough for me since I’m only planning to use this to go to parties, festivals, or when I’m out for short errands. I think it does look quite cool and since it’s black with minimal design, it seems quite easy to pair.

You get two chains with the bag. One is for a cross-body look and the other one for you to carry on your shoulder. I personally like the shoulder strap/chain more. I think it’s long enough and you can still use it cross-body.

I think the bag is quite nice and I can understand why it’s so popular. It’s casual but it still looks quite classy and almost dressy, in a way. I also like how it’s 100% grained leather- I feel like it would be more durable and can withstand nights out. But, scratches are still inevitable. I’m still not sure if this is just a trendy bag or if it’s pretty on its own and whether I’d still like it if it’s not such a popular bag. I don’t know but, let’s see. I’m excited to party in 2020 with this bag!
