A while back I started a series focusing on where you can buy quality furniture in the Netherlands and after months of prioritizing my fashion content, I am finally back with tons of inspiration for home and interior. This time starting with an NV Gallery review.
A little backstory, my boyfriend was going on and on about upgrading his work desk. He has this gigantic screen that he works with and he was over the 140cm IKEA desk that we’ve had since 2016. There was really nothing wrong with the desk or IKEA, it’s truly a champion. But, he wanted something a lot bigger to make working from home more comfortable.
Since I hadn’t gotten him a proper Christmas present, I took it upon myself to find the perfect alternative. It’s honestly so random how I found them. I remembered I was in a taxi in Barcelona with my mom and my boyfriend and I decided to google 180cm desk or something. NV Gallery popped up and it was truly love at first sight.
If you’re into contemporary interior pieces with mid-century influence and subtle luxury touches, this post is for you.
Side-note: this is not a sponsored post, I fully purchased this with my own money. However, I have included affiliate links where possible as a way to support the costs of running this blog.
about NV Gallery
Taken from their website: the founders, Natalie Hanczewski and Thibaut Saguet, created NV Gallery in 2016 after realizing how difficult it is, if not impossible, to find modern designer furniture at an affordable price. Since then, they’ve created this visually captivating catalogue of elegant contemporary furniture and design pieces with mid-century modern influences. To me, their whole aesthetic is this subtle luxury, sophisticated, modern yet still warm and gives off approachable comfort. Their pieces are literally perfect for homes that value both form and function.
Personally, I don’t think they’re extremely affordable, but they’re definitely reasonably priced for what they offer.
Beyond the designs, NV Gallery is also a brand that is mindful and committed to sustainability (from the manufacturers they choose to work with, the materials they use and their aim to not overproduce). They’re not just making beautiful things—they’re making them the right way and they’re making pieces that are built to last. If you’re interested in learning more about their commitment, you can visit their website here.
Their main flagship is in the heart of Paris, but as far as I know, they ship almost everywhere in Europe.
about the ‘SOLOMON’ desk I purchased
The SOLOMON desk is one of their “classic” work desk. It comes in either ash wood (with gold feet) or walnut wood block (with black metal feet). It also comes in either 160cm or 180cm width. Knowing my boyfriend’s wishes and our interior style, we went with the 180cm ashwood one.
This desk is absolutely spacious and it has several storage spaces: basically an open central part, 2 deep drawers, and a hatch on its left end to pass your wiring. It is not adjustable, so the height is exactly as it is when you unpack it.
At the time, I paid 999€ for it but since then, I saw that they’ve increased the price to 1099€. They do have a lot of sales, so keep an eye out. Also, you can use this discount code NVFAMILYIA54 for 50€ off of your first order after a minimum spend of 300€.
more on the quality and review below…
my experience with the shipping & packaging
Shipping was expensive, but reasonable, in my opinion. I paid 69€ but at the end of the day, it was a pretty heavy package at 81.5kg and it was shipped relatively fast from France to the Netherlands. I had to go back to my inbox but the overall timeline was like this:
- Purchased on the 5th of March (Sunday)
- Shipped out on the 8th of March (Tuesday) – approx. 1.5 business days
- Arrived sometime on the 17th of March (Friday) – approx. 7 business days
As far as I can remember, the overall shipment and delivery went fine. They handled it carefully and left no damage. They also managed to drop it off inside of our apartment (and not just in the building). Unfortunately, we still had to move it ourselves to the room we wanted to bring it to and they were not able to help. This is pretty standard so we’re not surprised, but it’s definitely a challenge as our apartment has two floors and it was almost impossible to carry the desk up the stairs to the study on the second floor. We tried multiple times between the two of us, but we failed. We ended up leaving the desk for a few days but luckily, our neighbor ended up helping and we’re forever grateful to them <3
this is more or less how it is packaged and how it looks “unpacked”
our experience with the assembly
I don’t know if this is representative of all their pieces, but the Solomon desk in particular was really easy to assemble, it was just incredibly heavy. All we had to do was attach the legs and flip it upside down. It was honestly super easy, but again, quite heavy to flip. I don’t know if this will be the same if you are getting anything else, but in my experience, most of the higher end furniture, or honestly anything from a proper furniture shop, will come mostly assembled (or they come with the team to assemble it for you).
my NV Gallery review after owning the SOLOMON desk for 5 month-ish
let’s start with the pros
1. this desk is stunning and solid
So, I love the look of this desk and the desk in general, I will literally never shut up about it. It is genuinely stunning and I love how heavy it is, it really feels and looks premium. I honestly think it has solid quality too. The desk is not flimsy at all and it feels appropriate to how much I paid for it. It feels very solid and expensive.
2. it’s truly practical and functional for those working from home
I’ve grown to really appreciate the practicalness of the desk the more I use it. My boyfriend is now mostly in the office or at a client visit so I ended up using the desk a lot more than I thought I would. So far, it’s been really pleasant – it is such a nice desk. The spaciousness of it, the look, and the handiness of the three drawers.
bonus points for all the drawers and compartments
I genuinely didn’t think I’d appreciate all the compartment spaces that they’ve included, but here I am raving about it. For starters, the two closed drawers are super handy for more “important” things that you’d want to keep away. Next to that, the open one is especially handy for just the little things that you need to put aside for a second. At first, I didn’t really know what or if I’d use the open drawer, but the more I use the desk, the more I realize just how functional that open drawer is. It’s literally perfect for anything that you need to grab frequently, but also need to just put away from time to time.
Next to that, I need a special shoutout to the wiring thing at the back left. That thing is huge and you can keep a lot of cables plugged in there while keeping it organized. For example: I find it really practical for phone chargers cause I can leave mine plugged in there and just grab it whenever I need it or hide it whenever I’m not using it. I know a lot of desks come with this feature, but I don’t think it’s appreciated as much as it should be. Honestly, it should be a bare minimum cause it’such an amazing feature.
but now, the cons
1. I’m not a fan of the coating
I hate to say it, but I’m not the biggest fan of the coating. This desk is 100% ashwood, but I don’t feel the ashwood at all. The desk feels a bit more soft and velvety and I’m guessing that’s because the desk is heavily coated. Don’t get me wrong, it does feel nice, but I sometimes don’t like that it doesn’t feel like wood. I also don’t get the purpose of the coating. I’m guessing it was for water spillage, but I don’t think it does much to protect against scratches or chipping. For example, we noticed quite some scratches and chipping on this desk within the 5 months that we’ve had it. It’s not super noticeable so it doesn’t really bother me that much, but I can’t deny that they exist. This is what I mean:
2. If you’re taller, the placement of the desk’s legs might get in the way for your knees
This is a con specific to my boyfriend. He is a lot taller than me and when he uses this desk, he hits his knees quite often on the metal part that connects the legs to the desk. That thing is hanging a bit low, so if you’re taller, you can’t really comfortably pull yourself closer to the desk cause your knees would hit that thing. But, if you’re shorter like me, you can honestly just lower your seat and you won’t have this problem.
Also, I’m not 100% sure but I think you can technically replace the legs with whatever legs you want to. If you manage to find something that fits, I’m sure you can just screw it on. But, honestly, for us both it’s very minute and a very small detail that can be inconvenient sometimes.
with that, let’s conclude. would i buy from NV Gallery again?
1000% yes. I have been recommending this brand to everyone who asks and I stand by them wholeheartedly. For now, I only have the SOLOMON desk so I can’t objectively judge the quality of all their items, but I am 90% sure that the quality of their other items are at least on par or hopefully even better. I don’t expect miracles after seeing the coating, but I think the desk is relatively okay wearing – the scratches are super light and doesn’t really bother me too much. It still feels high quality and I’m sure it will still last me a very long time. Overall, I think the desk is on par with the price they charge. The desk really gives such a luxurious vibe and I’m so happy I got it especially at the price I got it for.
To conclude, I love NV Gallery. I personally think they design their items really beautifully, but they also kept function in mind which I really appreciate. I think they’re perfect for anyone who wants that premium look and feel, but without paying the extra premium fee that you’d usually get from the higher end luxury furniture companies. If you’re not 100% sure, I’d definitely recommend just visiting their showroom in Paris and just get a feel for it.
Side-note: they also have an AI feature that allows you to visually place the object in your room and that helps you see roughly see what the furniture would look like in your room. I tried it before ordering this one and I think it’s pretty accurate. Definitely something to play around with if you’re not comfortable with just ordering.

And, there you have it <3 Thank you again for reading this. I’m so happy to finally write about home and interior again cause this topic is really close to my heart. Buying and renovating my first home made me more intentional with my interior and furniture. I realized with this experience that it’s a big commitment and it’s a huge investment overall. Whichever furniture you will get, will generally be with you for a very long time so you better choose something you genuinely like and feel comfortable with. I also try to make sure it’s properly functional and hard-wearing.
Anyways, I’m kind of rambling. For now, please let me know if you ended up trying NV Gallery, I’m so curious to hear about your experience. And, as always, please let me know what you want me to write about, I’m always opento new topics and ideas. Feel free to chat me here or on my instagram @heyohanna. Until next time <3
