Local Hero Amsterdam is an all-day breakfast and lunchcafé in the Nieuw-West area, where you can get fresh and organic ingredients for your food. We recently made a visit and we enjoyed it throughout.
You can eat inside or outside – both areas looking fairly simple but aesthetically pleasing. The staff speaks really good English and they’re super chill.
The menu is super Dutch in my opinion. Lots of bread (“broodjes”) and lots of eggs and cheese. It’s fairly priced: the mains are around €6-8; coffee/tea €2.75-4; juices/smoothies €4.75+; desserts (or homemade sweets I think) starts from €2.
This was the tosti with old cheese, extra egg and mustard/mayonnaise sauce.
And this was my boyfriend’s omelette bacon sandwich trio.
The food was pretty good. I thought it was super filling, I literally felt a bit dead after the whole meal (I think it might be the combination of the super thick cheese with the Chai Latte). Good to mention maybe, with the drinks that we ordered we got a little piece of what I think might be their homemade Shortbread – and damn, that is delicious. I’d call it the little tiny joy.
Overall conclusion:
A simple place to have your brunch fix with friends
Price point around EUR 12/p.p (for one drink, one main)
Ambience 8/10
Food 8/10
Service 10/10
Location 8.5/10
Value for money 8.5/10
