My boyfriend and I recently made a trip to Bali, Indonesia for a tropical getaway – and during the said trip, he turned a year older and so I thought it’d be super nice to celebrate it with a dinner under the stars. After going through Zomato (a popular food review site in Indonesia) we have found this lovely gem. Chez Gado Gado is a fine dining yet- casual- establishment facing the Double Six beach.
Chez Gado Gado has roots all the way back to the early 80s when it was first established as ‘The‘ first ever club on the beach in Bali. Long time guests will remember its beginnings as a secluded club located on a secluded beach.
Chez Gado Gado closed its doors late 1999 and re-emerged in 2001 as a French Restaurant, again, another one of the first in its class, a casual / fine dining concept under the stars on the beach. Currently serving French / Mediterranean cuisine in romantic setting with second to none ambience and service.
The restaurant was absolutely beautiful. I went there with my boyfriend and my mom, and the three of us were thoroughly impressed. The reservation system is fairly easy and the restaurant is super easy to contact (This was especially important to me as I wanted to know if they could make a small cake arrangement for my boyfriend’s birthday).
Overall we had such a good experience there. The staff were super professional and polite. The pretty lanterns, wood decor, and pretty sunset at the beach- it all adds together perfectly. And the food, oh my god.
Filet-o-fish (IDR 125k / EUR 7) Homemade bun with spiced crusted mahi-mahi, tartar sauce, jalapeno peppers and cheese. Rating 10/10.
Chicken “Paillard” (IDR 160k / EUR 9.6) Grilled breast, caper & olive vinaigrette and garden greens. Rating 8.5/10.
We also had the Calamari, and the Shrimp Aglio Olio. Both were relatively average but still good! 8/10. If you want to check out the menu, it is available here on their website.
Overall conclusion:
Romantic yet family appropriate
Price point around IDR 300k/p.p / EUR 18 (for one drink, one main, and shared appetizer)
Ambience 9/10
Food 9/10
Service 10/10
Location 8.5/10
Value for money 8.5/10
