I decided to upgrade from my ancient old iPhone 7 to an iPhone 12 Pro as soon as it was available to pre-order. I received the phone sometime towards the end of October. And, honestly I’m not all that thrilled about the upgrade. Maybe I’m just bad with changes and I’ll get used to it once more time has passed. But, I don’t know. Anyways, I’ll just write down my observations below and I’m curious to know if you also noticed this. I’m also super happy to receive any tips on what I can do to get around these things! ♡
no.1 I feel like my iPhone 7 has this true tone, cool tint, whilst my iPhone 12 Pro is super warm and yellow.
This made me so sad to upgrade from my iPhone 7 to the 12 Pro. I think it’s just the display and it’s meant to be like this cause it’s better for your eyes. But, it really threw me off. Like, my screen is so yellow in comparison to my old iPhone 7. I think the easiest way to really see this irl is to just put it side by side and open up Instagram. Just go on any photo that you’ve seen and compare them side by side. I feel like there’s a huge difference and iPhone 7’s true cool tone is just no longer there.
I still think that over time my eyes got used to the new iPhone 12 Pro display. But, I can still tell that it no longer has that soft, cool, blue tint anymore.
FYI I did a bit more research on this and I saw that indeed there’s a difference in all the iPhone displays color temperature. If you’re interested to know more, Zollotech made a really extensive video comparing the color tempratures of all the iPhone models available here.
There are also tons of posts on reddit discussing this. You can check it out here.
no.2 iPhone 12 Pro camera….. 🙁
I’m so sad to write this part cause the camera is one of the biggest motivator for me to upgrade from my iPhone 7 to the 12 Pro. Unfortunately, I’m severely underwhelmed and confused. I’m still messing around the settings, but I just don’t know how to make the photos look flattering and true tone. In hindsight, I should’ve waited for more reviews. But, I was so excited by the keynote and I immediately pre-ordered as soon as I could. I had such high expectations. I mean, if you go on YouTube, all the “pre-reviews” by seasoned tech reviewers all praised the camera on this iPhone. There’s no bad reviews. But, I just don’t get it. I’m so underwhelmed. I don’t know if I’m just super picky or if this isn’t meant to be an issue. Simply put, I’m confused.
Like these are the main things which bothers me:
-
my iPhone 12 Pro makes me (and everything else) super yellow and red. Everything is super saturated.
I get how it can be lively to have a colorful photo. But, like in my opinion, my iPhone 12 Pro is too overly saturated. Especially with smart HDR, everything just pops. But, it really reminds me of a highly edited, almost fake like dramatic photo. Like all the colors are just way too bright and saturated. And, it’s sharp with too many details in places where you might not necessarily need it to be detailed. I don’t know if it’s just me or maybe it’s meant to be like this. I guess you can go around with editing tools, but it’s just weird to have to edit it to tone it down.
Here’s an example of what I mean:
-
Tied to the above, my iPhone 12 Pro camera just captures too many details to the point that it no longer looks nice.
Almost every photo I take just ends up looking super busy. Examples below. Great that the details are all there, but I feel like it’s hard to take a photo unless the setting of the photo is minimal. I.e. bland background, or bland clothing etc. I don’t know, like I never had a problem with my iPhone 7 or my Sony A5100. But, with this phone – it’s just always too much and too busy.
-
I also feel like there’s a beauty filter on the front-facing camera of my iPhone 12 Pro. It makes me uncomfortable.
Am I imagining things or is it actually there? I don’t know how to describe it. But, I feel like my face is blurred out in some of my photos or videos. But, sometimes it does come overly sharp and detailed even though it was blurry at the start. And, sometimes, it’s just super blurry just like how it was. You can’t zoom in on anything, because it’s blurry af. I find it super inconsistent and just quite weird.

My iPhone 12 Pro camera can get so blurry sometimes 🙁
I especially notice this at night, or with indoor/artificial lighting. And, it’s especially noticeable with the front-facing camera. I don’t know what it is, but sometimes it reminds me of my macbook’s webcam. Do you also experience this or is my phone just faulty? Apple, please help me 🙁
FYI in case you’re interested, there’s also a discussion on this on the apple support page (link).

Lastly, my iPhone 12 Pro camera is super inconsistent sometimes
Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. Sometimes it’s blurry and sometimes it’s too sharp. There’s really no in between.
no.3 It’s so much heavier
I knew this coming in, but I just didn’t expect that it would be this heavy. Like, compared to my iPhone 7, the iPhone 12 feels like a brick. I don’t want to be unfair because they did mention that in advance. But, it’s just so heavy in comparison and it really surprised me. I’ve been using the Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessoires since the summer and I feel like it takes up a significant amount of space in my bag. I hate to be so picky but I really miss the iPhone 7 days.
no.4 The face id thing is so annoying when you’re wearing a mask, but it’s nothing too bad.
Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can do to get around this? I miss the fingerprint id so bad cause it’s such a hassle now to unlock my phone. I’m fine with inputting my pincode, but it just feels less advanced all in all.
And, that’s about it. Those are the main things which I notice from my iPhone 12 Pro which, ngl, bothers me quite a bit. I still want this phone to work out so badly, but I feel like it hates me. With that being said, I’m so curious to know about your experiences.
Next to that, I wanna hear your tips and advice and I just want this to work out. I would love to hear from you in the comments section below. Or, feel free to contact me privately here.
