If you’re in the middle of furniture shopping and wondering if SKLUM is trustworthy or not – I’ve got you, here is my extensive review and collection of photos. We bought our dining table from them last year and we have quite a few things to say about their shipping, installation, and quality.
*not a sponsored post*
SKLUM is inspired by the ideas and creations of great designers of the 20th century. Anyone who can identify with us and have the same admiration for these iconic pieces of furniture has come to the right place. The classic designs are made of high quality products and finished with vibrant colors. They are also available at very attractive prices.
*taken directly from their website.
Note: Not sure if you can tell from the above, but good to note that, a ton of their stuff is actually inspired by furnitures from designer furnitures. For instance, a few of their dining chairs are resembling the original Hans Wegner chairs (e.g. the Wishbone, the elbow) and a coffee table resembling Isamu Noguchi’s Noguchi table. The same for their couches and lamps as well. Just like in the world of fashion, furnitures sold here are often inspired by items.
to be honest,
This store seemed a bit dodgy and too good to be true in the beginning. I wasn’t sure if Sklum was trustworthy – not one super (legit looking) positive review at the time and barely any customer tagged photos. Of course, there were reviews but they were quite neutral or they don’t provide a ton of details. Next to that, a lot of their reviews were centered on how long and sketchy the shipping is. It was even worse when we went on their social media accounts, literally at the time their comment section was just flooded with people complaining about the status of their shipment.
Despite all of that, we figured that we might as well give it a shot. The dining table we wanted was so beautiful and so cheap – what’s the worst that could happen? Plus, we weren’t in a rush to get a dining table because we were still busy with our home renovation and had the time to wait. On top of that, we figured from the looks of it that they were a relatively new company who might have sized up too fast and was just having some logistics issue. Don’t hold me on that, that’s just our assumption.
But at the end of the day, we bought their Kali dining table (in 190 x 95cm). We were pleasantly surprised.
shipping
We ordered the table on the 7th of December, 2020, and it fully arrived in Amsterdam in 15 days. I say fully arrived because the table came in two shipments. The table legs arrived first (if I’m not mistaken) and then the actual table top came five days later. It wasn’t super convenient if you’re not always home, but in our case it was okay at the time as we had the contractor at our new place everyday.
As a side-note: I can imagine why they separated it, the box was huge and heavy.
our shipping details
Side-note: In the specific product page, Sklum seems to always specify whether or not the product is in stock (and ready to ship) or if it’s at pre-order (and might arrive later).
Installation
This table was relatively easy to assemble, but mainly because there weren’t that many pieces to assemble in the first place. However, instruction wise, it wasn’t the clearest and it wasn’t as illustrative as IKEA for instance. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t that bad (honestly, we had worse). In case you’re curious, Sklum seems to always have a manual available on the product page itself. If there’s any particular product you have in mind, maybe you can check it out in advance – just to gauge whether or not it will be difficult. Since ours was just the table, I don’t think the level of difficulty is the same.
Related to this, however, the table was heavy. As a result, we left the table upside down for the longest time. We I couldn’t flip it and we had to wait until our contractor came back for the finishing touches to flip it together.
an honest review of the sklum quality
it’s not amazing, but it’s not bad. The table top is quite solid and feels nice to the touch. It’s clearly MDF but looks and feels more solid than the typical MDF furniture. Aesthetic wise, it resembles wood way more accurately. But, the top of the table feels almost laminated – like super smooth, yet still textured like wood.
Please note that a small part of our table is damaged (as pictured below), but we’re honestly not sure if this was caused by Sklum. We kept the table in our storage during the renovation and it was moved around a lot. The damage could have been caused by us, but honestly it’s so minor we didn’t mind. Unfortunately, that does speak for Sklum’s quality, but you can decide yourself. If you’re a lot more careful – maybe this wouldn’t happen.
FYI In case you’re wondering, we didn’t contact Sklum about this because we find it to be super minor and a long time had passed since the table was first delivered. We didn’t think it was fair to ask.
All in all, not a bad purchase. The legs are amazing . I was a bit nervous that they’d be fragile, but they seem pretty solid so far. My boyfriend has even stood on the table when he installed our dining lamp and the table still survived. We’ve received so many compliments on the table and it’s literally so eye-catching. Everyone who walks up the stairs notices it first and I just love this table so much.
would I buy from SKLUM again?
yes, definitely! It’s a really affordable store with good quality items. Granted, I only have one item from them, but I don’t see any reason not to buy from them again. We didn’t have any problems with the shipping (it came relatively fast) and the prices are not bad at all. Quality wise, it’s on par with IKEA, so it’s not at all bad.
Next on my wishlist from them is definitely the chi salontafel (inspired by Isamu Noguchi). I actually featured the original Isamu Noguchi table on my february wishlist, but I was so so happy when I saw a cheaper get the look alternative here. Unfortunately, it’s now sold out. I’ll definitely keep an eye out. Alternatively, I think I’ll save up and get the secondhand deal from Pamono.
Well, I hope this was informative. At the end of the day, you can judge yourself if you think Sklum is trustworthy, I hope that my review and photos did it justice, but if not, I’d love to hear from you. In any case, please share your experiences down below. I’m also open to new furniture shop recommendations as we still need a couple more things ♡

Hi, I just found this today. This is a great honest write up! So I want to share my review if it helps anybody. I purchased a couch, standing lamp and coffee table from Sklum and I am very happy. I live in Zeeland (not giving too many specifics) and the shipment for me arrived within 9 days. The quality is really good (esp for the price). My only complain is during shipping they did not take the couch upto the first floor and so I nearly broke my back trying to bring in up through Dutch stairs. All in all good. Will make more purchase next year!
PS. I sent pictures to my friends and family, they all agree that my purchases do look ‘statement piece’ like.
So if you are looking to go beyond the usual ikea-like design but more on a budget, SKLUM is great. But tbh really wish I read your write-up before because I was SO skeptical and worried initially. Good day!

Hi there, sorry I missed this – that’s kind of odd! I went back to my inbox to check and saw that they sent multiple shipping update within the first two days (bought on 7/12/2020; the first update came on 8/12/2020 and the shipping confirmation came on 9/12/2020). I would highly recommend reaching out to their support (or via Instagram just to be sure). Hope all went well ♡
